Ever since London was founded by the Romans over two millennia ago, the city has been constantly growing and changing its form.
The latest addition to London’s skyline is the shard; it’s an almost surreal site – like some alien monument piercing the sky, dwarfing the city around it. It is in fact the tallest building in Europe (for now at least.) I’m not quite sure how I feel about it, but there’s certainly no ignoring it!
For landscape photographers or those just looking for a magnificent sight I highly recommend a trip on the London-Eye.
“Every great architect is – necessarily – a great poet. He must be a great original interpreter of his time, his day, his age.”Β Frank Lloyd Wright, American architect
Fantastic black and white image! Wonderful mood.
For me: “the shard” looks a bit unfinished and out of place in it’s surroundings. However, it’s also possible I’m not sophisticated enough to appreciate it’s virtues…and I accept that may well be true. π
I do like your framing of the structures and skyline.
The black and white photo is splendid with all those lovely tones from rich black to delicate white. As for the shard it is indeed quite a building – even more so in contrast with London Tower, as I believe parts of it may be in the foreground of the photo. And, yes London Eye is a treat for anyone wanting to have an overview of London.
The contrast between old and new and the B&W is realy fantastic!!
Love this view Martina!
Your photo is a perfect contrast of the wonderful stonework and structures in the foreground and –over the river in that “new land”–all of the new glass and steel modern structures in their free form that almost denies the existence of the ground they are built on. An amazing dichotomy! Nicely done!
This section of the London skyline has an other-worldly feel to it. The gloominess these buildings emanate is enhanced by the muted tones and the grainy look of your photo.
Nice place to be! IΒ΄m sure, you love itβ₯
a b/w perfect in its lightness, really pleasant this view
Your interpretation of the scene brings out the textures of the buildings so well, Martina. I like that towering structure — at least in the photo here. I hope to see it personally one of these days, and what I’ll think of it then, I can’t say…
That is one modern-looking ziggurat. The London skyline is amazingly dynamic.
Nicely framed, it is very difficult in busy city like London to find good point of view from where you can compose a nice frame.
