I gave my self quite the headache with this image! My problems fell into two categories; technical and presentational.

I might have mentioned before that I am currently using mobile-broadband to update and maintain this site. Quite frankly, it’s like using 56k dial-up (Remember those days?) that’s if I can get a connection at all. The dream of being in the wilderness and updating the blog through the airwaves is not quite going according to plan! I wanted to post a lot more images from the Alps last week, but the best laid plans….
Still, if that’s all I have to worry about I can’t really complain.
My second problem was a presentational one – This image is a panorama comprised of 12 individual photographs. I wanted to do it as a technical challenge; to see if I could produce a high resolution image that I could print at really large scale if needed. Secondly, I wanted to capture the entirety of this section of the mountain range, to capture it’s grandeur.
Capturing and producing the image was a success, but the image is so wide that it doesn’t really present that well in the confines of this blog. (Images are restricted to 800px) As a compromise, I have included some crops from the large image for your perusal, as well as the completed panorama.
Hopefully my connection troubles are behind me and things will be a bit more regular this week 🙂

I like the main panorama – very impressive – composition is great and the detailed shots have lots of impact, and I like the slideshow way of presenting them – works well.

As Francis Ford Coppola once noted, “Anything you build on a large scale or with intense passion invites chaos.” I not sure anything smaller then a large/long wall could do this image justice. Wonderful results.
Now, not only do I remember 56k dial-up but I remember 300baud dial-up where you could read a text file faster then you could download it. 🙂
Great panorama. When looking at my mountains shot, I have always the same sensation that the image doesn’t present it as I felt when I was there. But at the end, It doesn’t matter indeed… Being there was much more sensational!
Or maybe, like Earl said, it’s just a matter of printing surface… 🙂

The panorama is certainly impressive, even in this small sized version on your blog, Martina. I imagine that it would look fabulous in a large print. Good luck with your Internet connections…
