When DJ’s great uncle passed away a few years ago, he seemingly left very little behind for people to remember him by.
However when sorting through his belongings we found a life undiscovered. There were all manner of creative outpourings, ranging from lovingly crafted poetry to photography and belongings that told the story of a man who had travelled the world in search of the great adventure. It was an emotional process for DJ cataloguing the assorted possessions, but the one thing that stood out amongst it all, was a near pristine Kodak Instamatic 100.
It now lives on our office shelf, 2 shots left on the roll of undeveloped film and every now and then I’ll sneak a peek at it and remember to enjoy my own great adventure.

I remember those !! But they were old when I saw them I hasten to add!!
Now this is what I call old school cool 😉
I remember these. Cool shot.
Magnifique mise en valeur de ce vieil appareil photo…
Not to date myself too much — I didn’t have this model of “Kodak Instamatic” but I was old enough at the time I could of had one and I do remember them. That’s all I’m going to say. 🙂
It’s a wonderful link to DJ’s Uncle and finding it the way you did asks the question, “Do we really know the secret lives and perhaps creative ambitions of those around us live?”
was the time when you could not miss, digital was still far away, a very beautiful picture with perfect light show!!!!
This is a wonderful shot – straightforward, but with hints of what could lie within that unprocessed film.
A commercially viable still-life image! Pure visual treat.. lovely!
Nice shot.. Love the DOF and the awesome bokeh it makes…
I still use film, but never seen an instamatic till now, thanks for sharing this
Gros coup de nostalgie pour moi , induit aussi et renforcé par le superbe traitement de tes images : c’est avec cet appareil que, tout môme encore, j’ai commis mes premières photos.
A fascinating, nostalgic image that brings back memories long forgotten. I wonder where mine got to?
Great shot – and a true quote from S. Sontag.
I love the retro-look of this cameras too. Thats why I shoot with my iPhone and the Hipstamatic-App 😉
I love this old camera. Your photo from this too.
Your statement on the life of his uncle and his work makes me very thoughtful. As well, we have yet to be able to tell us so candidly. Either by speaking or using our photos.
Lovely!
Michael
What wonderful discoveries, then. The camera is is very nicely shown here. I had one of these, and quite a few others, such as a box Brownie. Wish I had them now…
