“Fate will find a way” Virgil
This picture was something of a happy accident for me. I had spent the day taking photos at a nearby location , and was determined to get some time at the beach to grab a few shots before the day was over with. However as is often the case with best intentions, things didn’t quite go to plan and by the time I arrived at the beach it was pitch black- I could hardly see my nose in front of my face.
I quite literally shot this picture in the dark, I could hear the waves but barely see them. I used a tripod and a long exposure (30s), and pushed the resulting photo by several stops in post. To my amazement the resulting image revealed beautiful soft tones with incredible delicacy, however I don’t think I could have achieved the image if I had been trying for it .
I really love the result and feel lucky to have captured it.
The effect is totally surreal! Do you mean it was altered in photo shop afterwards? Just goes to show what the camera can see when we can’t!
I love this series of images. This one has such an impressionistic feel to it. Beautiful photograph!
This is an amazing shot! It’s not luck, it’s talent!
Martina, a fortuitous and wonderful result — beautiful! After a short period of being appropriately amazed I’d be wondering if it was repeatable? 🙂
WOWOWOWOW! Am speechless. That definitely is a great result. I can’t believe it was shot at night…looks like a foggy day! Amazing work Martina!
very nice Martina i like this interpretation of fluid dynamics, this shot has, in my opinion, a strong poetic feeling inside, you have created a really surreal atmosphere, i really like very much.
I can well understand that you love this picture. It is really quite special. So delicate and unreal. Very dreamy.
This is a beautifully executed shot Martina. It really doesn’t look like an accident! Amazing what one can do when manipulating exposure.
Nice result indeed. Evocative.
Experiments in photography are so much fun. Especially if the results are so beautiful.
You certainly transcended your place with this image…Its so lovely in its graininess, soft motion and soft, subtle hues. The rocks add a special element of pattern to it as well.
Beautiful photograph!
Great picture very creative and nice tones I like it
beautiful, the cool and mysterious atmosphere makes this shot. Well done
I have nothing really additional to add here Martina. The atmosphere and light are what really pull this together, and I suppose there is some irony in there given there wasn’t any light at all to work with! Sometimes the camera can see what we cannot.
Beaucoup de douceur et un résultat charmant et reposant. Les galets sur le premier plan de ta photo y contribuent certainement…
After reading your comment, I could not believe this. Great long-time-exposure. I love this kind of pictures.
Incredible technique to capture this frame in the darkness, and the thirty second exposure has given such an amazing image that I doubt anyone would ever guess it wasn”t a day shot. Dreamy and romantic, reminding me of the shorelines I walk back home in British Columbia on the West coast, the simplicity and elegance are enchanting.
Beauty doesn’t go away just because it’s dark. I’m glad you ran the risk to prove it! It is a beautiful photo to say the least.
