One of the first things I noticed about London when I first arrived here a few years ago, was the incredible amount of cctv cameras scattered around- almost one on every street corner. In fact, I think it’s true to say that there are more surveillance cameras in London than in any other city in the world.
It took a little while to get used to it, but it’s reached the point for me that whilst I definitely don’t feel any safer for having them around… I no longer notice them in the way I once did, but the question remains…
“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?” Juvenal
Big brother is watching…
I heard that the UK is the most watched country ….
It’s ironic many cities are adopting London’s security measures of having cameras on every corner and yet here in the U.S., and I believe England as well, there have been many instances where photographers or videographers have been harassed and arrested for photographing and taping the police or government. Perhaps it is the common citizen, and even we as photographers, who must guard the guards.
I like the first photo best. The perspective makes the camera poles appear close together and at different heights — a nice effect. The diagonal cloud line adds interest along that line as well. Also, with the cameras “looking” in different directions there’s a sense of the viewer standing in a blind spot and I like being “the watcher” in this case.
Well composed.
I need a translation for that quote 🙂
I can’t believe there are TWO in that one location? So bizaare!
Nicely captured Martina!
J’adore… Image très graphique et cadrage original.
Attention, ils t’ont repérée et ils devraient sonner chez toi dans quelques heures… pour quelques explications 😉
I noticed a lot of cameras as well when I visited london. Brilliant shot!
a good architecture photo. but the backgrounds are not natural. some feel the observation. come because of the perspective
Great! Caught little scary, but awesome! 🙂
I’m not a fan of the constant surveillance, but you’ve turned these cameras into great photographs, simple, graphic, and intriguing.
They look at you, you look at them… Stunning capture!
I also like the first image a bit more. Quite an interesting subject actually for a photograph. You wonder who is watching back on the other end!
Absolutely surreal. Who IS watching the watchmen? Because certainly this type of surveillance is catching up rapidly, especially in the city of New Haven, and it’s never become comforting. Well done.
some say it’s infringement of privacy, yet many say it’s security for evident sake and to me it’s “do make sure i’m captured while i’m at my utmost polish-self” hahahahhha 🙂 well it’s just purely our world these days, it’s 2011 HA. great vision piece of work, lovely verse too.
Simple composition, great effect. Big brother is watching all of us, but they can’t protect or guard us…
